News in brief - 21 August 2023

Paradigm Protect has launched a series of ‘soft skills’ training sessions in conjunction with Aviva. The directly authorised protection proposition, which is part of Paradigm Mortgage Services, has said the events will take place throughout September, with each session tackling a different element on how to use soft skills to start and continue the protection conversation with each client. Paradigm and Aviva have said that these sessions are structured to help both experienced advisers who are looking to enhance their discussions, as well as newer advisers who need support on how to get started. The events are also available to those who are currently in training and are not providing advice.

The Right Mortgage & Protection Network and DA Club have announced a new partnership with Uinsure’s new digital product, UinsureCX. The product allows advisers to automate insurance quotes during the mortgage advice journey. Member firms of both the network and DA Club can now be able to refer clients to UinsureCX in order to automate building and contents insurance quotes for their clients (B&C) and to offer a five-star Defaqto-rated B&C product. Once referred to UinsureCX by the adviser, the client receives automated communications personalised to their specific mortgage type and individual circumstances, with the clients then arranging their own cover through a simplified journey that takes less than a minute at their convenience.

United Trust Bank (UTB) has promoted Helen Wakeford to the senior role of head of unregulated underwriting of the bridging finance division. The appoints comes as UTB continues the restructuring of its bridging underwriting function into two dedicated teams, one managing regulated bridging applications and one managing unregulated bridging applications, which is where Wakeford will be working. She has worked in finance for nearly 20 years, having worked in various roles in credit, portfolio and relationship management with lenders including Metro Bank, RBS and HSBC, and joined UTB in 2019 as a credit officer.
