PFS announces pair of board appointments

The Personal Finance Society (PFS) has announced the appointments of Alan Whittle and Adam Harper as new directors of the organisation.

Ian Callaghan’s term of office as a director of the PFS has also been extended for a further year, the society confirmed.

Whittle, a chartered financial planner and fellow of the PFS, has previously served as the president, education secretary and careers officer of the Aberdeen Institute of Insurance and Financial Services. He has also been chair of the PFS North Scotland Region, and a CII national forum officer for Scotland.

Harper is executive director, strategy, advocacy and professional standards in the CII Group. He is replacing Gill White, who retired from the CII Group and as a director of the PFS board at the end of 2025.

Whittle said: “I am deeply honoured to join the PFS board as a member director. Having spent many years volunteering across both the PFS and wider CII Group, I’m excited to continue supporting a profession I care so much about.

“We are at an important juncture as we look ahead to the challenges and opportunities shaping the future, particularly in areas such as AI, sustainability, and educating the next generation of financial planning professionals.”

Harper commented: “I look forward to helping shape the PFS’s strategic direction and ensuring our work delivers real value for members and the public. From supporting vulnerable customers, to preparing the profession for the great wealth transfer, to strengthening the talent pipeline for the next generation, I’m committed to helping the PFS continue to lead the way in raising professional standards.”

PFS chair and president, Carla Brown, added: “It’s a pleasure to welcome Alan and Adam to the PFS board. Their knowledge, passion and insight will help us to meet our existing goals and drive new ambitions. I’m looking forward to working with them on behalf of all members for the benefit of our fantastic profession.”
