News in brief - 5 January 2026

Tippie Malgwi has been appointed as head of high net worth (HNW) and diaspora banking at Afin Bank. While the bank has worked to support diaspora borrowers, Malgwi has driven the development of Afin’s HNW proposition for “asset rich, income light” borrowers since he joined the firm last year. Originally named Afin Premier, the newly rebranded Afin HNW mortgage allows borrowers to include assets such as their pensions, investments, shares and real estate holdings. As part of the promotion, Malgwi will continue to play a role in overseeing Afin’s diaspora mortgage offering designed for foreign nationals working in the UK who can find it hard to get a home loan because of the length of their visa or a lack of UK credit history.

Foundation Home Loans has appointed Alan Davison as its new chief commercial officer (CCO). He joins the intermediary-only specialist lender from Afin Bank, were he also held the CCO role. Davison, who has more than 25 years of industry experience, has also worked as distribution director for personal finance at Together and head of conduct and customer experience, marketing at RBS. Foundation said that his appointment would support its growth ambitions in its core specialist buy-to-let and residential lending sectors.

Paradigm has released a set of three special edition mortgage market videos as part of its Paradigm Insights series. The new series of short videos covers interviews with senior personnel at three lenders and reveals their thoughts and insights on what’s to come in 2026. Each interview covers the guests’ opinions and perspectives on how the intermediary mortgage market is likely to evolve as the first quarter of 2026 progresses, as well as views on what trends and challenges will shape the industry over the year. All Insight videos can be recorded as unstructured CPD learning for advisers. Paradigm also has a wide range of additional CPD activities in a number of different formats via its free-to-use CPD Academy.
