The Bridging & Development Lenders Association (BDLA) has appointed senior partner at Brightstone Law, Jonathan Newman, as legal adviser to the board. He will advise the board on legal matters, attend meetings and provide counsel in support of the ongoing growth, sustainability and responsibility of the bridging and development lending sector. Having previously held terms as an elected member of the BDLA board, Newman brings extensive experience in legal and commercial matters relating to specialist property finance. His appointment further strengthens the BDLA’s support framework as the association continues to represent members and support the sector’s development.

Gatehouse Bank has reduced rates by 0.29% on its two-year fixed BTL products for UK expats and international residents. The changes apply on the bank’s two-year fixed BTL products for overseas residents, including its green home finance range and customers seeking finance for HMOs and MUFBs. For customers acquiring or refinancing a property with an energy efficiency of A or B, Gatehouse Bank’s range of green home finance products offer a 0.10% reduction on the rental rate. Following the repricing, two-year BTL product rates start from 4.91% for UK expats and 4.92% for international residents.

Mansfield Building Society has announced record mortgage lending for the second successive year. The member-owned organisation grew its mortgage balances by over 10% and recorded £148m of new mortgage lending in 2025. Retail saving balances also increased by 7.3% with the society’s total savings balances now exceeding £500m for the first time in its history. In addition, The Mansfield has also reported significant investment in its core banking platform. The new system, set to be rolled out in 2026, will make it easier for members and brokers to transact.
