News in brief - 25 September 2026

ModaMortgages has launched a limited edition range of two- and five-year fixed-rate buy-to-let products with rates up to 10bps lower than previously.

Rates start at 4.14% for two-year fixes and 5.04% for five-year fixes. The range covers single-dwelling properties, house in multiple occupation (HMOs) and multi-unit freehold blocks (MUFBs) with up to six bedrooms or units, and is available to individual and limited company landlords. There are no application or valuation fees across the range, with a choice of fee structures.

LendInvest has completed its eighth residential mortgage-backed securitisation under its Mortimer programme, backed by a £265m portfolio of 1,240 UK prime buy-to-let (BTL) mortgage loans and a further £35m pre-fund.

Mortimer 2026-1 is the mortgage lender's first securitisation to qualify under the UK Simple, Transparent and Standardised framework (STS), potentially widening its institutional investor base and providing access to preferential capital treatment for eligible investors. The deal was heavily oversubscribed, according to the company.

Countrywide Surveying Services has added six newly qualified surveyors in the past month, taking the number to qualify through its training academy this year to 35.

The latest recruits come as the surveying profession faces concerns over its future skills base. Skyline’s 2026 survey of surveyors found that 46% of respondents did not expect to remain in the profession for more than ten years, while 62% were aged over 50 and fewer than 16% were under 40.

CSS said it has a further 13 trainees working towards qualification, including five women, and continues to recruit people from related property careers such as estate agency, energy assessment, sales and lettings. Almost one in four employees across its wider field surveying and management team are women.
